Design a logo for the Sue Campbell Hall

Claudia Parsons, The Holt, Robert Bakewell, and Cayley Hall Logos

Sue Campbell Hall is ºìÐÓÊÓƵ's newest hall of residence, opening for the 2027/28 academic year. It's the first new hall on campus in seven years, and we're inviting students and staff to design its logo. The winner will receive a cash prize of £200, with £50 for two runners-up.

The hall is named after Baroness Sue Campbell, one of the most influential figures in British sport. Over several decades she has helped shape sport in this country, from getting young people active to supporting elite athletes and championing women's football.

Sue Campbell Hall will be home to more than 550 students across five blocks. It has ensuite rooms, shared spaces for studying and socialising, and is a short walk from the Library, the Students' Union, the Edward Herbert Building, DigiLab Central and Powerbase.

At ºìÐÓÊÓƵ, halls are where friendships start, traditions are made and students find their community. Every hall has its own identity, and Sue Campbell Hall needs one too.

You don't need to be a designer to take part. A strong idea matters more than polished artwork.

What we're looking for

The logo will be seen by prospective students choosing where to live, by residents who will wear and share it, and by former residents at reunions and alumni events. We want a logo that:

  • includes the hall's name;
  • gives the hall a distinctive identity that residents are proud of;
  • sits comfortably alongside the University's identity and the other hall logos;
  • works at small (eg chest of a hoodie) and large (eg signage in a hall communal area) sizes;
  • works in full colour, in black, and in white on a dark background;
  • will still feel right in 10 years' time.

Guidelines

  • Do not include the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ logo within your design.
  • Your logo can have its own personality and doesn't need to look like the University's logo.
  • Choose a clear, easy-to-read font that complements your idea.

What to submit

  • Two or three sentences explaining your idea, covering what it represents and why.
  • Send whatever you have. That could be a photo of a sketch, a rough mock-up in PowerPoint, Canva or Word, or a written description with reference images.
  • Whatever you choose to submit, please ensure that any images are 300 dpi in resolution and supplied in JPG, PNG, or vector EPS format.

All entrants must declare whether any AI tools were used in the creation of their submission. Where AI has been used, entrants must provide a brief explanation of how it was used, for example in concept development, image generation, editing or design refinement.
